“Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.”¬† -Albert Einstein

so i got accepted into USC’s college of nursing! i’m sooo excited…i can’t wait until graduation now so i can start my journey to becoming a nurse:] so this week we started model lessons. they were really fun because we got to act like the kids in the grades that the teachers were teachihng! it also gave us a chance to act as teachers and practice before we got out to field experience. and we had no more read alouds:(

“Attracting and Developing High-Quality Teachers”

this article says that school boards should choose higher quality teachers to give students a more adequate education. it also says that teachers should be observed more to determine their teaching quality.

we got our field experience teachers. mine is Mrs. Cooke, second grade! i’m so excited and i can’t wait to start field experience. it also gives me an excuse to go shopping for some new clothes! ūüôā ha lol

“i’m still alive but i’m barely breathing just prayed to a god that i don’t believe in cause i got time while she got freedom cause when a heart breaks no it don’t break even” …so this quote is actually a song but it’s kinda the theme to my life right now! it’s called break even by script! u should listen to it:]

ok so i’ve been really slackin’ on my blogs! i haven’t dont them in about 2 weeks so here is mine for the week of feb 8-12! this week we began choosing our model lessons. my partner is Emily and we did FLAY. we chose to do animals in spanish.

Keri had a read aloud this week. she read “Gone High Tech and Senioritis.” it was like a poem and it was awesome! it talked about how u can just use technology like voice recorders and cell phones instead of coming to school as a senior! it really truely did grasp the senioritis concept.

“study says most 1st grade classes are not high quality”

a study of 820 1st grade classrooms suggests that many are not as warm, friendly, and academically stimulating as some experts think they ought to be. this article also tells us how in 1st grade, students really aren’t learning what they should.

so it snowed this week!¬†it was so awesome! but unfortunately the school wouldn’ let us, the dazzlers, go¬†to our competition:( it was really depressing¬†because we had worked so hard to go… but luckily it got rescheduled to march 6:) i had soooo much fun playing in¬†all the snow with my¬†best friend amelia!

“sometimes the people you love are the ones you hurt the most.”

i can’t believe i missed food friday:[ but i wasn’t feeling good & i thought my da dgave me the stomach virus & i didn’t want to go to school & give it to anyone! well this week in class we chose our school and grade levels for field experience & started a new unit! we vaguely started it on wed. and i wasn’t there friday so i hope i didn’t miss too much!!! this week for the read aloud…Raven read Mr. Monty by Andrew Penn. it was a short story about a teacher dealing with misbehvaing students. it was a really good story and it gave some incite on what might happen to us later on as teachers! even in field experience, we may experience some unruly kids!

“effective programs for dealing with autism in schools today.”

1 out of every 100 children in the US has some form of autism. this website explains to teachers how to cope with autisctic children in their classroom. the federal government says that autism is increasing at a rate of 17 percent each year!

“so take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you’ve never been hurt because every 60 seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you’ll never get back!”
learning experiences : so this week in TC we discussed to hurried child and how stressful it is on a child to be overscheduled! we watched an episode of Supernanny about these kids who had like 9 afterschool activites a week and they were all under the age of 10! it was ridiculous b/c you could really tell it was impacting the children’s behavior, sleeping patterns, and school work. they were out of control and had no structure in their lives b/c they were constantly driving from one activity to the next. we also did a book in a day and i read the one about children growing up & my chapter was about teenagers growing up and going through puberty and that “awkward stage!” it also discussed the effects of masturbation and incest on a the growing child!
observations/current issues(at DFHS): since break has been over i have noticed that teachers have piling on the homework! couldn’t they just keep a steady pace of the same amount of hw throughout the school year, instead of giving us very little 1st semester and a butt load 2nd semester!!! i mean i have a job and other stuff i do outside of school…dance, friends. its really hard to deal with that change when im used to something else! teachers r stressing us out! its our senior year, i know we’re not supposed to slack off too much, but come one they give us a little slack!¬†i have so many major projects going on right now i can’t keep up!
read alouds: sara von read an adorable poem called “when you thought i wasn’t looking!” it was about a child who notices all the stuff adults in there lives¬†that really¬†make a huge impact…i.e. praise, reward.

“it is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.” -Aristotle

this week i was out sick on monday and tuesday. it was awful! my back ws killing me all day on sunday so bad it hurt my neck and legs! i woke up monday morning and literally could not walk! my mom didn’t know what was wrong with me so we went to the doctor and they said i had all the symptoms of mono…so they tested me for mono and strep throat. i didn’t have either but the doctor told me to take it easy and just stay in bed for the next day or two. i hate missing school because when i come back i have to make up so much and i get really behind. but im really happy its a 4 day week and its the end of the semester so alot of teachers are giving us busy/easy work.

this week at school ive noticed alot of people have been out sick! strep is starting to go around so people need to stay healthy and stay away from sick people….all the usual stuff…wash your hands, etc. also alot of seniors exempted their senior exams so alot of them didn’t come to school! and also the 4×4 seniors have left so there are now less students at our school. im also really sad that my guidance counselor mrs. turner is leaving! she was a really good person to talk to & she helped me alot through school and really helped out with all my college applications!

“Race to the Top Assessment Program”

this assessment program has set aside $350 million for schools to develop their next generation of assessments…hopefully this will help schools chose what assessments should be made for each students and how they should go about acheiving success because success is #1 in education:] its important that each child receives the proper education!

halee read a poem called “teachers” this week… it was so sweet! it was a student who wrote it for there teacher. halee said she wants to be a teacehr like the one the poem was written about. she said she wants to be that teacher that her students love and make them feel good…i agree with her!:]

‚ÄúBe who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.‚ÄĚ

-Dr. Suess

so this week was our first week back & i can’t believe i was at school! on the first day back i was like…really im here right now! because ive been so used to sleeping in all break. this week back was pretty relaxed in class! we continued presenting our life line presentatons & those were really cute to get to see everyone’s baby pictures:] on wednesday i was late because i had an eye doctor exam. and on friday it was supposed to snow but it didn’t so we made it snow in Mrs. J’s room! and we had sonic for breakfast…it was awesome! it almost felt like a real snow day until second block when i had to go to calculus:/

this week in school everyone has been so dead…including the teachers! you could tell no one really wanted to be back… i know i didn’t¬†& on top of all that i had a bunch of projects and work due¬†that i forgot over break! so first week back wasv very stressful for me & i had dance for the first time in¬†2 weeks and i was sooo sore!

Dutch Fork’s New ID Policy

is a bit ridiculous! its cool b/c u get until second block to get an id and all but if you dont get one by then…even if they dont give u one u get an afterschool!

“It is a miracle that curiosity survives formal education.” -Albert Einstein

this week in TC we got our stuff for our family that we adopted through families helping families. my group had Horace who is 18. we got him a ton of candy! and some nice jeans and a nice shirt and a hoodie, we also got him a snuggie and some headphones. and a lot of guy stuff like axe, deodorant, etc. we also got the whole family cleaning supplies(soap, windex, laundry detergent) and toilet paper. i think we did really well for the family and i hope they like all their gifts and i hope they have a merry christmas!

we didn’t really do much this week in class except for prepare for families helping families. on wednesday, we had sooo much fun! we made our own homemade movies based on real movies! like saw and harry potter and twilight. it was so much fun! Mrs. J was even getting into it too. she was like let me help with your costumes and wanted us to film them for her. it was great. i really love TC and how much we bond over doing silly, pointless things. i really feel like we are growing more as a family each class. im gonna be really sad when we have field experience and won’t be in class with each other:(

The New SAT Score Policy: Tiny Loophole, Big Shock?

this article is about how some colleges are requiring students to send them all their SAT scores…not just the good ones. some students are totally against this… i mean i am. its not fair to judge a student based how many times it took them to get a good score…what matters is that they got the grade, not how long it took.
